THE DILEMMA: This is a project where the concrete had failed in less than 10 years. Upon removal of concrete, poor soil conditions were discovered. Due to the fast paced nature of the business, removal and replacement of the soil was not an option. The owner's original design was to replace with the same reinforcing as in the past.
THE SOLUTION: The concrete contractor recommended adding Helix Micro Rebar to provide a "hybrid" of reinforcing.
THE RESULTS:
- T he owner required that the replaced concrete be available for semi-truck traffic in 72 hours from the time of the demolition. The concrete contractor was able to meet this aggressive schedule in spite of discovery of poor soils, by including Helix in the mix.
-The broom finishing was unaffected by the addition of 10 lbs. of Helix per cubic yard.
-Two years later, no significant cracks have appeared in spite of the fact that the original sub-base was left in place.
-The performance of the drive areas proves that this fast hybrid solution worked and saved the owner tens of thousands of dollars in extra costs for sub-base removal and lost time for their operation.
